Admission Guidelines & Requirements
Baker College’s Culinary Institute of Michigan has a “right-to-try” admission policy. That means:
- We accept your high school diploma or its equivalent, such as a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
- If you don’t have a high school diploma or GED you may be admitted on the basis of test results.
- Admissions are made without regard to race, religion, sex, national origin, or disability.
- The ACT or SAT is not required as a condition of admission. However, if you choose to take either or both tests, we encourage you to request that the test results be sent to us.
Ability to Benefit
- If you have not earned a high school diploma or GED certificate you can be admitted on your Ability to Benefit status.
- You must take the ASSET or COMPASS test and score at approved levels. The ASSET and COMPASS tests measures reading, writing, and numerical skills.
- To be eligible for Ability to Benefit status, you must achieve or exceed the minimum scores on each subset of ASSET or COMPASS in a single testing experience. You may retest one time only. Restesting requires the approval of the counseling/advising staff. Approval is based on the assumption that you achieved a meaningful change in knowledge and skills in the areas assessed. If you are unable to achieve the minimum scores on the ASSET or COMPASS test, we recommend you pursue GED completion through your local adult education program.
Transfer of Credits
Usually, in transferring credits between colleges and universities, the accepting institution determines the credits they will accept based on two key criteria:
- Relevance to their program.
- Grade point average achieved at former institution.
If you are planning to transfer into the Culinary Institute of Michigan, please contact us to discuss the credits you want to transfer.
